This month, we saw Apple host one of the most anticipated technological launches of the year as they introduced not one, but two new iPhones: the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. As expected the release of the new iPhones induced a frenzy amongst the tech savvy of us but with such conflicting reviews emerging are the new iPhones really worth the upgrade?

Whenever new iPhones hit the shelves one of the hardest decisions we face is whether or not to take that leap into the unknown and upgrade to the latest and supposedly one of the greatest advances in mobile technology.

So what are the pros and cons of upgrading to the iPhone 6?

Let’s take a look…

Pros

Design - A Return To Curves

Lets cast our minds back to the original iPhone with its smooth, half curved edges before Apple shifted to a far more rigid frame. Well, the curves have returned and provided in the words of Apple “a continuous seamless design”. In addition to this the cover glass of the iPhone 6 has been ‘ion-strengthened’resulting in a far more durable and abiding structure. Perfect for the accident prone amongst us!

Battery Life– Longer Lasting

Probably one the most fundamental and desired improvements to the iPhone 6 is its battery life. With an upgrade to 1810 mAh battery capacity, the iPhone 6 now has the ability to provide you with up to 60 hours of audio, 11 hours of video and 14 hours of talk time. With the genuine ability to maintain all day use, is this vital increase in battery life enough on its own to tempt you into an upgrade?

Display - Bigger and Better

The iPhone 6 sees the launch of new 4.7 and 5.5 inch diagonal screens with Retina HD displays. With a notably higher resolution of 1334 by 750 the innovative screens also have broader viewing angles.

Cons

Size - Does It Really Matter?

Due to the increase in screen size the iPhone 6 has adopted a larger size. Although not a colossal difference, existing iPhone users may find the expansion difficult to adjust to after becoming accustomed to holding a more slender device. In this case, we would advise holding off until you can really get to grips the iPhone6 in person.

Apple Pay - Trust Issues

Apple Pay effectively stores your credit card information on a secure element within the iPhone 6 allowing you to ‘tap-to-pay’in stores or to shop online. Although at face value this seems a relatively useful addition to the iPhone, with recent scandals involving the leak of sensitive images from consumers iCloud accounts can we really trust Apple with such delicate information?

With the evolution of the iPhone proceeding at such a fast pace it’s hard to resist the latest in technological advancements but the crucial question is does the price exceed the value?

What do you think?
