The sea Wool or Hippospongia lachne is very soft, absorbant, durable. It is ideal for use in the bath and shower, for animal grooming dogs and horses, decorating and washing up. Even adults have more fun in the bath when using a sea sponge! Our sponges can be used with soap to create a foamy lather or with clay. A natural unbleached sea sponge offers a great solution for people with sensitive skin. People have always marveled at sponges. Each one it totally unique. Collecting has been going on for 4000-5000 years. These sponges are harvested from the Aegean Sea and they are still vital to the economy and culture of the Greek Islands.

Sea Wool (hyppospongia lachne) sponges are very versatile. Due the microscopic structure of the 'spongin' fibers, natural sponges have amazing cleaning properties.

Natural sponges last for much longer than synthetic ones. They are more resistant to acids and they are easier to clean than their synthetic counterparts.

These sponges are unbleached making them suitable for use on sensitive skin and they more durable than bleached sponges. these sponges are generally brownish in colour, not yellow.

During harvesting, highly trained divers leave the root behind so that the sponge can regrow, since they have amazing regenerative capabilities. All sponges collected in the Greek Islands are inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries before they can be certified for export.

As well as being renewable and sustainable, natural sponges, are fully biodegradable at the end of their useful life.
